<description><![CDATA[<div>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Ismaili Imamat sign today an agreement for international cooperation within the framework of the visit to Portugal of institutional and spiritual leader of Muslims Ismailis, Karim Aga Khan.</div><br><div>The cooperation, through the Aga Khan Network for Development, may occur in states and regions of Asia and Africa considered to be of interest to the Portuguese government and where that network is deployed.</div><div><br>In addition to regular consultations on matters related to the sites concerned, the agreement to be signed today after a meeting with the prime minister, José Sócrates, stipulates that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Portuguese diplomatic services can benefit from the resources of the Network countries there is a wave diplomatic or consular representation Portuguese.</div>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<strong>Aga Khan University and Catholic University of Portugal Sign Agreement of Academic Collaboration</strong><br><br><strong>Jointly Sighned by Aga Khan University and Catholic University of Portugal </strong><br><div class="style9"><strong>12 July 2008 - Lisbon, Portugal -</strong> Aga Khan University (AKU) and the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP), today signed an agreement of academic collaboration as part of their efforts to foster international understanding and scholarly cooperation between diverse cultures and faiths. Areas of collaboration between the two universities will include culture, law, religion, ethics, health sciences, education and human development through joint research, training initiatives, and exchange programmes for faculty and students. Professor Manuel Braga da Cruz, Rector of the UCP and Firoz Rasul, President AKU, signed the Memorandum of Understanding at the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon. </div><br><div class="style9">The historic signing ceremony was attended by His Eminence D. Jose Policarpo, the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon and Chancellor of the University, D. José Policarpo, and His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (Spiritual Leader) of the Ismaili Muslims and Chancellor of the AKU. Rector da Cruz and President Rasul noted that the partnership between the two Universities conveyed a collective commitment to go beyond common boundaries, to build bridges between diverse faiths and peoples by connecting different parts of the world together through the universal language of scholarship. The partnership is an opportunity to address shared concerns, identify common interests and foster greater understanding on issues of global concern. </div>]]></description>

Stalls projecting and promoting different cultures of Pakistan and students&#8217; artistic talents and skills were the highlight of the event. Students&#8217; performances and their artwork display, interactive stalls, shadow puppet show, food court and other interesting activities were some of the features.<br><br>The Aga Khan School, Kharadhar was established in 1926. The school delivers education mainly to the underprivileged urban segment of the surrounding community through 80 qualified and committed teachers presently catering to 1350 students 60 per cent of whom are girls.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[VANCOUVER - While culture is often thought of as a &#8220;luxury&#8221;, particularly in the developing world, an Exhibition featuring the work of the Historic Cities Programme offers a perspective that looks at culture as an asset that can transform communities. <br><br>The Historic Cities Programme Exhibition, which concluded its Vancouver showing on Wednesday, is an international initiative of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture commemorating the Golden Jubilee of His Highness the Aga Khan. It features five of the Trust's projects in Egypt, Syria, Mali, India, and Afghanistan, and provides a unique lens on the role of culture in development. During the Jubilee year, the Exhibition will tour cities in various countries around the world. <br><br>The Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Canada partnered with UBC, SFU and Centre A to present the Historic Cities Programme Seminar Series. <description><![CDATA[ISLAMABAD: The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) has adopted a two-pronged strategy for development of agriculture sector, which has helped bring down poverty in the Northern Areas.<br><br>&#34;We have adopted a two-pronged strategy i.e. agriculture for poverty reduction and livelihood security and value and chain development in agriculture for improved access to markets for poverty alleviation in the area,&#34; Izhar Ali Hunzai, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the AKRSP, told a seminar on &#34;Agriculture for Development&#34; here on Tuesday.<br><br>The AKRSP is the largest development network in the region and playing an important role in the socio economic development of the area. &#34;Over 20,000 farmers have been trained in improved cultivation, post harvest and drying methods,&#34; he remarked. ]]></description>

<title>WB to support PPAF efforts to cut poverty</title>

<description><![CDATA[<strong>By: CH AAMER WAQAS</strong><br><br>KETI BUNDER - While living in the backyard of the civilisation of the biggest metropolis of the country, Karachi, one can only imagine hardships mostly generated by the nature, and inauguration of a Rural Health Centre (RHC), two schools (boys and girls), and a play ground is a huge occasion for the residents of Keti Bunder. <br><br>Regional Vice-President (South Asia) of The World Bank Praful C Patel inaugurated a composite Rural Growth Centre, which has been established by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) under an Integrated Area Upgrading Programme at a cost of Rs 9 million to provide a wide-range of facilities to the marginalised communities in Keti Bunder. <br><br>This centre, a third generation initiative of the PPAF, consists of provision of infrastructure, water supply, sewerage and wastewater treatment, solid waste management and disposal system, improvement of educational and health facilities, fishing-related activity zone, street pavement, mangrove plantation, hard and soft landscaping, street-lighting and a cricket ground and a children play area have been completed for the benefit of the poor communities. The project is being implemented by the PPAF partner organisation, Aga Khan Planning and Building Services. ]]></description>
